Cool the Skin
A radiation therapy burn should be treated like any minor burn. The first aid protocol for minor burns is to cool the burn. If the radiation skin burn is cooled early and consistently, it will help minimize the severity of the radiation dermatitis. Radiation Rescue is specifically formulated to cool the skin effected by a radiation therapy burn.
Relieve the Pain
Even with a minor burn, such as those that occur with radiation therapy, there will be exposed nerve endings that create pain. When the burn area is treated with a thick covering of Radiation Rescue, the gel quickly relieves the pain, allowing the patient an easier recovery time between treatments.
Prevent or Reduce Skin Damage
The cooling and soothing qualities of Radiation Rescue have been shown to prevent or reduce radiation dermatitis. When used from day one of the radiation treatment, most patients have found that the skin damage was no more serious than a sunburn. Water-based Radiation Rescue draws the heat out of the skin. Many radiation burn creams are petrolatum based and will trap the heat in the skin, often creating serious radiation skin burns and skin damage.
